I’m Eminem in Rap God!
We somehow managed to get ourselves an appointment for an EEG only 4 days after the visit to our pediatrician, which seems to be a remarkable feat considering we were told it would be at least a three-week wait. As we were driving to the appointment, I was explaining to Nate what was going to happen while we were there. He was scheduled for a “drowsy/awake” 1 hour study. I talked about how I wasn’t sure how they attached the electrodes, but that it wasn’t painful, they would just put them around his scalp he just had to lay there. As soon as I told him this, his immediate question was, “Do you mean I’m Eminem in Rap God”? I’ll admit, I had NO clue what he was talking about, so he had to explain to me that there’s an Eminem song where he’s hooked up to a machine with wires coming out of his head. I told him I guessed he was Eminem then, so he was thrilled about that the whole time and made me take a picture of him.
Nate was most definitely not drowsy for the study since we went mid-day, but he was able to stay mostly still for the hour-long test, and only had to be encouraged to stop wiggling a few times. At no point during the test did I see any seizure activity, as I was allowed to sit right next to him in the room. I was so hopeful. He had all the flashing light tests and answered all the questions they asked correctly, from my perspective, everything went great and I let myself believe that maybe his seizure on Easter was just a fluke.
The pediatrician called back the following Monday, there was no unusual electrical activity on Nate’s EEG scan, but he did recommend that we still go and see the CHOP Neurology doctors for their opinion. That next neurology appointment was the day that really started our journey…
